The UI Ultra race offers a range of categories. If the full 70K seems daunting, there are relay and group options, allowing you to team up with friends and conquer the challenging 70K course together.
Choosing the 10-person group category, my friends, coach Jihad Sabiili, and I tackled 7K each. Although Kampus UI was my usual running spot, yesterday’s UI Ultra presented an entirely new challenge. The scorching temperature, perhaps around 35 degrees Celsius, added an unexpected twist, causing my heart rate to soar even at a modest pace of 10.
Running in such conditions was a first for me. Chatting with friends from other groups right from the start until we hit halfway not only made the run in the heat way more enjoyable but also played a part in decreasing my heart rate.
Looking ahead to next year, I’m considering the relay category, especially if they have the race at night like last time. Hoping for a cooler run and new adventures!
